Summer Camp 2018

Edlin School Summer Camp 2018, combines STEAM education, sports, and fun to keep the learning and excitement going over the summer season with an emphasis on science, math, technology and the arts. Edlin's summer campers broaden their horizons and make memories to last a lifetime.

At Edlin School we believe in building healthy bodies and minds; that it why all of our camps schedule time each day for organized outdoor games and supervised time to spend hanging out with friends.

- Week 1 - June 25 through June 29 -

Science is Everywhere! - Dinosaur Week

Students entering K5 to 2nd grade

Cost: $375

During our week of Dinosaurs we will learn interesting facts about some of the most famous dinosaurs through songs and stories.  We will create dinosaur fossil footprints, masks, and even eggs!  Will there be dinosaurs inside?

Nature Expedition

Students entering 1st to 6th grade

Cost: $375

The Nature Expedition camp is ideal for the young explorer, naturalist, and builder who enjoys being outside.  Students have opportunities to work together using the scientific method, exploration, and observation to better understand the world around them.  If you are inquisitive about the environment or interested in learning new ways of caring for our planet, Nature Expedition is the camp for you!

Lego Mindstorms EV3

Students entering 1st to 3rd grade

Science and art go hand-in-hand.  In our Art unit, we will explore the science of colors.  We will blend primary into secondary colors and even try our hands at tertiary colors.

Lego WeDo 2.0 Robotics

Students entering 2nd to 4th grade

Cost: $325

Take the next step in your child's LEGO building development with our Lego WeDo 2.0 Camp! Our LEGO WeDo 2.0 course is designed to encourage critical thinking and expose kids to various science topics such as life, physical, earth, space sciences, as well as engineering. These topics will be explored as students learn to build WeDo robot models. Some of the many robot models like cars and helicopters will help students learn about the principles of physics and engineering.

Lego WeDo is a hands-on, “minds on” learning solution that gives students the confidence to ask questions and the tools to find the answers and to solve real-life problems. With the Lego WeDo 2.0 software, students will take their drag and drop code knowledge and combine it with their love and interest in Lego robotics!

Science is Everywhere!  - Kid Concoction Week

Students entering K5 to 2nd grade

Sometimes you just need to get messy.  With a week of Kid Concoction and Science Fun experimenting is the name of the game.  Let’s create our own bouncy ball or watercolors you can actually use!

Living History

Students entering 3rd to 6th grade

Cost: $375

Explore American history this summer in a camp that is both educational and adventurous.  Visit the plantation home of our first president, George Washington, at Mount Vernon.  Ride the trolleys through Old Town Alexandria.  Go for a bike ride through historic neighborhoods in D.C. and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath.  Explore interactive military history at the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico.  Hike the Appalachian Trail, complete a ropes course, and relive the famous John Brown Raid at Harper’s Ferry.  With these frequent day trips, students will relive a different aspect of history every day.

Art Explorers (Session 1)

Students entering 2nd to 6th grade

Cost: $375

Have you ever wanted to learn more about famous artists and their works?  Or try to create art with different techniques and materials?  Then this is the camp for you!  During the week, you will be inspired to create stunning works of art by studying artists and their masterpieces.  We will use various media including charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint, oil pastels, paper collage, and found objects.  The week culminates in a day trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. to view these works of art in person. Python Programming: Robots & Games

Students entering 4th to 6th grade

Cost: $375

Calling all programmers, gamers, and robot fans! In this computer programming camp, campers learn to code graphics, games, and even program a robot with Python! Students will be able to work on a variety of programming projects like: A Coin Flipping Simulator, a Magic 8 Ball, or a Sports Game. Using the Edison, a Lego compatible, programmable Bot, students will discover robotics, and take computer programming to the physical world! The class will explore using Python to create simple movement and sound programs, and move on to program the robots to navigate mazes, interact with sound, and more!

Science is Everywhere! - Earth and Science Week

Students entering K5 to 2nd grade

Ever wonder if you could make it rain or create a tornado while inside? Our Earth and Space unit will answer those questions.  We will use the scientific method to answer the questions how and why.

Soccer Camp!

Students entering 1st to 6th grade

Cost: $375

We offer full and half day soccer camps with, professional coaches and trainers. Registration for July 16 through July 20 camp closes when the cap number is reached without exception because of the ratio of players to coach. This camp focuses on technical, agility, speed, and speed of play. You will learn all the tactical aspects of the game and what it takes to improve your game.  The week spent with us is all about improving while working hard. We also incorporate a lot of fun activities and games.

Our Fun Sports Camps provide an exciting rewarding opportunity for young, developing children to concentrate on fun activities and sports they are passionate about in a supportive and closely supervised atmosphere. We have experienced camp counselors who will focus on building and refining skills and promoting a love of the sports and games. We will be playing games like Tennis, Floor Hockey, Soccer, Cricket, Lacrosse, baseball, Flag Tag, Capture the Flag, Kickball, Scooter games and many more… A week spent with us is all about having fun, incorporating a lot of fun activities and games, learning and gaining valuable experience throughout the week in a safe environment. Week 7 - August 6 through August 10

Great Estimation Detective Agency

Students entering 2nd to 5th grade

Cost: $375

During this week, students will put their mathematical skills to the ultimate test.  With pencil, paper, and some great brainpower, they will puzzle through a variety of challenges.  Students will learn to ask the right questions, collect the information, analyze the data, and determine the answer.  The focus will be placed on estimation skills and creating a sound hypothesis.  Students will be able to see firsthand if they have what it takes to be an Estimation Detective.

Anime

Students entering 6th to 9th grade

Cost: $375
Additional cost for specific activity

Join us in celebrating Asian pop culture!  Students will visit a manga shop and art galleries.  They will watch new and classic anime films and play popular Asian sports and games.  We will take daily day trips to various destinations that include a Japanese steakhouse, sushi bars, and ramen houses.  Students will design and create a costume to wear on the final day of camp to the 25th Annual Otakon Convention at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C.!
